Botox vs. Dysport vs. Xeomin: Which Is Right for You?
At Glam + Glo, Ashley McShurley, ACNP-BC brings internationally trained precision to every patient — which means you get the best treatment and right product for your face and goals. Not just whatever’s cheapest or easily available.
Here’s what you need to know before you book.
What Is a Neuromodulator / Neurotoxin — And How Does It Work?
All three products are derived from botulinum toxin type A. Injected in precise, therapeutic doses, they temporarily block nerve signals to targeted facial muscles. The muscle relaxes. The skin above it smooths. Lines soften or disappear entirely.
The differences come down to formulation, protein load, onset speed, and how the product diffuses through tissue. Those distinctions aren’t minor — they shape which product performs best for your anatomy and treatment area.
Botox vs. Dysport vs. Xeomin: The Real Difference
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA)
The original. Botox has decades of clinical use behind it and remains the most recognized neuromodulator in the world. It’s precise, predictable, and versatile — effective across forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines (the 11s), brow lifting, lip lines, and more.
Onset typically lands around 5–7 days, with full results visible at two weeks. Duration averages 3 months for most patients. Botox carries a larger associated protein complex, which some practitioners argue contributes to its more localized spread — useful for areas where pinpoint placement matters.
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA)
Dysport has a lighter protein load and a slightly smaller molecular structure, which allows it to diffuse more broadly through tissue. That’s not a flaw — it’s a feature, when used correctly. Dysport tends to produce a softer, more natural-looking result across larger treatment areas like the forehead.
Onset is faster — many patients notice movement change within 2–3 days. Results typically last 3–4 months, comparable to Botox, though some patients report slightly longer duration. The unit conversion is different (Dysport units are not equivalent to Botox units), which is why experience and training matter.
Glam + Glo carries Dysport as a primary neurotoxin option — and Ashley’s precision with dosing and placement reflects training most injectors in the Panhandle can’t match.
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA)
Xeomin is the purest formulation of the three. It’s a “naked” neuromodulator — stripped of the accessory proteins that surround botulinum toxin in Botox and Dysport. That distinction matters for patients who have developed resistance to other neurotoxins over time, or who prefer a cleaner protein load.
Onset and duration are similar to Botox. Because there are no accessory proteins, there’s no risk of developing antibodies to those proteins — making Xeomin a strong option for long-term neurotoxin patients.
Which One Is Right for You?
That depends on factors no blog post can fully answer — your muscle anatomy, your treatment history, your goals, and the specific areas you want addressed. What a blog post can tell you is this: the injector matters more than the brand.
The right neuromodulator in the wrong hands produces flat, frozen, or asymmetrical results. The right neuromodulator in the right hands — dosed correctly, placed precisely, tailored to your face — produces results that look like a better version of you.
